Matthew D. Lindgren, MFTi

Matthew D. Lindgren, MFTi I specialize in trauma and grief through an integrative approach of EMDR and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Traumatic events happen both as part of our daily lives as well as through extraordinary events. People we love die. Relationships come to an end. We lose our health, livelihood, and sense of identity. Sometimes trauma happens when others fail us in significant ways or abuse us in times of weakness. Trauma always changes who we are. Trauma affects us at every moment, everywhere, in our work, jobs, family, and intimate relationships.

We all need a safe, caring space to make sense of trauma. I can help you work through years of painful memories, failed relationships, and self-destructive behavior. Understanding trauma is often a mystery, as it has broad affects throughout all of our lives. Together we can name and describe your experience so it will no longer dominate and control your life.

I work with Michael as a registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. Most of my clinical experience has been with members of the Latino and LGBT communities. I have worked as a psychotherapist in Latin America, and am very familiar with Latino culture, though I do not presently conduct therapy in Spanish. I work with children, couples, and families, as well as with individuals. Many of my clients are heterosexual men in their twenties and thirties.

I am committed to psychotherapy as a means of social change based upon the principle that "the personal is the political". Outside of Golden Gate Counseling, I have provided psychotherapy to street children in Nicaragua, and I consult with Centro Latino de San Francisco, a non-profit that serves the needs of Latino and Filipino seniors.
